Herbert Silinsh worked in oil, painted landscapes, flowers, still-lifes, seascapes, yachts, the small cities of Kurzeme. In his painting bright influence of postimpressionism is observed, but from 1970 Herbert Silinsh painted mainly abstraction. All life the artist seriously took a great interest in yachts and the sea.
Herbert Silinsh was born on August 25, 1926 in Tukums region.
He studied at Latvian art school, in Elsingen where teachers were J.Matisons, F.Bange, J.Kuga and L.Liberts (1946 - 1948).
After returning to Latvia he has acquired craft of the house painter. Not for long worked at combine "Maksla" (Art). Since 1958 was a member of yachts-clubs "Daugava". In 1970 years Herbert Silinsh was the head of group of aesthetic cooperation of the Artists’ Union, the Union of fishermen and the Latvian State navigation.
Herbert Silinsh was a member of the Artists’ Union since 1960.
In exhibitions participated since 1946. His works are exhibited at many exhibitions in Riga, Moscow, Japan, Hamburg, Sweden, Belgium, etc. Personal exhibitions are organized in Riga (1966, 1972, 1980, 1992, 1993, 1994, together with A.Dumpis, 1996, 1999, 2000), Tukums (1966, 1981, 1986, 1991), Ventspils (1966, 1992, 1997, 1998, together with K.Silinsh), Jelgava (1966), Jurmala (1966, 1982), Talsi (1974, 1998), Roja (1974), Mersrags (1980), Moscow (1968, 1989).
Artist was awarded in competitions of works devoted to sports and the sea, he also was the lifelong grant-aided student of Cultural fund (1999).
Herbert Silinsh has died on March, 4th, 2001.
Works of Herberts Silinsh are in a collection of museums of Latvia, Russia, Estonia, Japan, Finland, Canada, the USA, Spain, France and etc.
