Aleksandrs Apsitis (1880-1943)
Latvian painter, graphic artist. Book illustrator in Russia, the first Soviet Russian political poster creator (1918-1919). Worked with different pseudonyms- Aspid, A. Petrov, Osenevs and other.
From 1898 to 1999th Alexander attended Ļ. Dmitriev - Kavkazsky art studio. After graduating worked for the press and graphic books.
In 1900 was admitted to the Moscow circle of artists "Wednesday" (Среда).
Moscow collaborated with magazines "Родина", "Нива", "Звезда" (1902-1906th. In 1912th illustrated commemorative spending L.Tolstoja "war and peace";
in 1913rd Russia's first illustrated children's encyclopedia.
Apsitis is one of the most important Soviet political poster creators, who later used the principles of many Russian artists.
