Moonlight 19/20th century. Canvas, oil. 62x81 cm. Aleksandrs Keens (orig. A.Kuhn) is a painter of Belarusian origin who worked mainly in Riga, from the turn of the 19th/20th centuries until the First World War. Keens is one of those artists who were once well-known in society, but as a result of world wars and changes of power, have not been studied in Latvian art history, whose works are sometimes found in private collections. Keen mostly painted landscapes corresponding to the Romantic era, which, framed in luxurious gilded frames, beautified the wealthy middle-class residences of his time.
There is no information about Keen's studies, but his works show professionalism and experience.
