July Feder was born 1938 in Koknese.In 1856 he enrolled in the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, where specialized in landscape painting at Socrates Vorobjova. Later he improved his mastery in Düsseldorf Academy of Arts with profesor Eugene Dickens, and also scooped a lot of inspiration in his travels around Europe. In 1873 the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts Feder granted Class II artist degree, but in 1874 I class artist degree. In the same year, in Londons exhibition Feders won silver medal and became to member of the London Academy.In 1880 in St. Petersburg, he was elected to the academian, from 1889 to 1898 he worked as teacher in the commercial school, in St. Petersburg. In Petersburg period he became close with young Latvian artist gender - Rozental, Purviti and others, also he kept in touch with the Latvian artists' association "Dwarf".
