Janis Rikmanis (1901-1968)
Janis Rikmanis painted portraits, landscapes and figurative compositions. He was the thin master of a psychological portrait. He often painted landscapes in the open air, transferring on a canvas the mood of the nature in all subtleties of nuances. In figurative compositions often turned to a theme of horses.
Janis Rikmanis was born on April 5th, 1901 in Riga.
He graduated a workshop of figurative painting of the Latvian Academy of Art (1931) with degree work “Boys at the river” (professor R.Tillbergs).
Janis Rikmanis participated in exhibitions since 1929.
His personal exhibitions were organized in Riga (1942, 1964), memorial exhibitions were organized in Riga (1976, 2001).
Janis Rikmanis took part in artist associations “Radigars”, “Rosme”, Latvian Fine Arts Society and he was a member of Artists Union of Latvian SSR since 1944.
The artist worked as the assistant in drawing department of the Latvian Academy of Art (1945 – 1950).
Janis Rikmanis has died on March, 25th, 1968.
