Konrads Ubans (1893-1981)
Konrads Ubans learned in Odins commerce school (1902 – 10), then half of the year in school of art in Odessa and in Riga City school of art (1911 – 14). He continued studying in Penza school of art (1915 – 16).
Artist was called into the army in 1916. He returned to Latvia in 1918.
K. Ubans went to the student trip to the Germany and France in 1922.
He worked as an assistant director in City Art museum (1920 – 25).
Artist worked as pedagogue in Latvia Art academy since 1925 (assistant professor in Painting department since 1940, professor since 1946).
K. Ubans got several awards of soviet regime.
He took part in Riga artists group (1919 – 39) and exhibited his works in Independent artists group, groups “Sadarbs” and “Zaļā vārna” exhibitions. Artist also was a member of Artists Union since 1944.
Self-exhibitions were organized in Riga (1920, 1923, together with L. Liberts, 1957 - 58, 1963 - 64, 1965, together with P. Upitis, 1969, 1973, 1980, 1983, 1993 - 94), Cesis (1943), Rujiena (1970), Liepaja (1971), Koknese (1981).
Memorial exhibitions – in Dole (1987), Madona, Liepaja (both 1994), Portland (USA, 1999).
K. Ubans took part in many group exhibitions in Latvia and abroad.
